Lilac
The
lilac is regarded as one of the 'drowsy-scented flowers' and as
such ill-omened. White lilacs in particular should not be taken
into a house - and especially not a hospital - while the purple
and red varieties are also regarded with some suspicion. The only
luck associated with this flower is to find one of the rare five-petalled
lilac blossoms of any colour
Ink
Spot
It
has been a superstition in the British Isles for several centuries
that to spill some ink while writing a letter is an omen of good
luck - even if it may somewhat spoil the look of the correspondence!
Fly
That
old joke about the fly in the soup and the waiter's instant response,
actually evolved from an omen that a fly which falls into a glass
or dish from which someone is about to drink is a sign of prosperity.
There is, though, no indication that this happy future will be
affected in any way if you change the drink or soup for a fresh
one!
