Until
my training as an angel therapy practitioner in October of 2004
by DR. Doreen Virtue, I had never heard of the expression "Indigo
Children." However, as a mental health nurse, I am familiar
with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), a medical
diagnosis that Indigo Children may be mistakenly diagnosed with
from lack of education.
ADHD
is a behavioral syndrome characterized by an inappropriate degree
of inattention, impulsiveness and hyperactivity. Lets properly
re-label them as A.D.H.D.: Attention Dialed into a Higher Dimension
children.
Let
me share with you what I have learned about the wonderful, highly
psychic Indigo Children. Indigos were born in the mid-1970's though
the present day. Out of habit, I refer to Indigo as Indigo Children,
even though many are now adults! They are highly psychic and they
take their psychic gifts and knowingness for granted. The term
"Indigo Children" refers to the color indigo blue (deep
blue) which is the color of their aura. It also relates to the
third-eye chakra, associated with psychic/intuitive abilities,
whose primary color is indigo.
Characteristics
of Indigo Children/Adults
(adapted from The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children by Dr. Doreen
Virtue.)
- Creative, artistic
- Strong willed/headstrong (Gets them into trouble when they don't
always conform to rules that make no sense to them.)
- Think outside the box (Another trait school systems & government
does not always appreciate)
- Highly psychic
- They trust their instinct. (They are like a human lie detector
who can spot integrity in another person a mile away. They trust
their instinct about people. If you know an Indigo and you haven't
learned yet to trust your own instinct, ask them if the person
is a good person of integrity.)
- They admire truth and integrity (If they don't believe you're
a person of integrity, they do not respect you, regardless of
whether you're the teacher/principle or head-honcho!)
- Born mid-l970's or later.
- An "old soul" (10 years old, going on 30)
- Independent and proud
- Waivers between low self-esteem and grandiosity (Thinking highly
of themselves and their abilities).
- Can isolate themselves feeling they are different and misunderstood.
- Wish to help the worlds in a big way
- Bores easily, hence can be mis-diagnosed as impulsive aspect
of ADHD
- Prone to sleep disturbance (insomnia, restless sleep, nightmares)
- May have history of depression
- Chooses real, lasting friendships over superficial relationships
- Loves and bonds with plants and animals
- Sense of entitlement
- Sensitive people and energies around them (therefore may numb
themselves with drugs/alcohol).
There
are two main types of Indigos: 1) warrior (break old systems)
2) quiet artist. The global lifepurpose of Indigo Children is
to usher in the New Age of Peace. They are here to actively change
our political, educational and nutritional systems for the better.
Personally, as a non-Indigo, I would feel daunted and intimidated
at such an important and enormously challenging life purpose.
When I once asked a ten-year old Indigo Child how she felt about
her life purpose of ushering in a new age of peace and breaking
down old systems. She casually, and in stride, shrugged her shoulders
remarking, "That's no problem for me!" Honestly, what
an inspiration!
Improving
the Lives of Indigo Children/Adults
Indigos
have a challenging life purpose and are often labeled "different"
and "difficult" as they are being raised in an old energy
environment not suitable to their newer, higher energy and higher
consciousness. However, there are certain methods to improve their
lives and health.
Indigos
are famous for rebelling (not always a trait appreciated by parents
or teachers). Yet without the ability to rebel, Indigos will not
effectively break down old, out-dated systems. Consequently, teach
Indigo Children to redirect their energy into promoting change
as a forin of rebellion. For example, if they don't believe the
school system is effective then encourage them to write a letter
proposing change to the teacher/principle (Indigos are not ones
to shy away from their opinions). Write a letter to the editor
or an article to a school paper/magazine. Discuss with key people
in position to effect change, what changes you desire.
Patronizing
Indigos is a sure way to loose their respect and attention. Even
if they are younger children, treat them with respect as you would
any adult. Indigos are wise beyond their years and operate from
a very high level of consciousness. Consequently, they can teach
you as you can also teach them. Do not talk down to Indigo Children
as this is a sign of disrespect.
Have
you ever felt like you are in a power struggle with an Indigo
Child? Indigo Children absolutely do not respond to, "Because
I said so" or "Because that's the way it has always
been done." If you want their cooperation then take the time
to explain why to Indigo Children. You can also take this one
step further and when Indigo Children are determined to do something
their way, ask them to explain why. You will be surprised at their
well, thought-out answers. Learn to have an open exchange with
your Indigo Child to improve communications. Be open to what they
have to say, it will make your life so much easier!
Indigo
Children are highly sensitive to what they eat, consequently it
matters what they eat. Certain foods act like toxins to their
bodies!
Food
Recommendations for Indigo Children
(Adapted from The Care and Feeding ofIndigo Children by Dr. Doreen
Virtue, Ph.D.)
- Avoid food dyes and foods with additives (sugar, white flour,
preservatives) as they increase hyperactivity, impulsivity and
inattentiveness
- Avoid meats, chicken (fowl) and fish contaminated with hon-nones
and pesticides
- Adopt a vegetarian lifestyle or near-vegetarian lifestyle (where
you eat animal products 1-2 times a week).
- Eat organic fruits and vegetables to avoid pesticides which
Indigo are highly sensitive to
- Eliminate or significantly reduce caffeine (coffee, pop) and
alcohol
- Avoid cured meats such as bacon, sausage, luncheon meats
- Eat a healthy breakfast to increase attention span, improve
mood and energy level
Get
outside and exercise! Exercise is essential for the well being
of Indigo Children. Exercising outside is preferable over a gym
since sunlight, fresh-air and being surrounded by nature plays
an additive relaxing, peaceful element to Indigo Children. Indigo
Children have a close connection with nature. They need to be
outside. It can be as simple as a walk/run, gardening, mowing
the lawn (shoveling snow).
There
are many more methods to improve the lives of Indigo Children/Adults.
I highly recommend reading: 1) The Care and Feeding of Indigo
Children by Dr. Doreen Virtue, Ph.D. 2) The Indigo Children by
Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. Following these recommendations are
worthwhile, as they will improve the mental, physical and spiritual
health of Indigo Children. They are worth it!
